I had very specific ideas for short-films growing up and remember feeling so jealous of all the friends who went to film school. Now I sometimes think about generating things with AI. I don’t. And every quality AI content out there makes me extremely anxious.
I don’t know if Jim HuiHui ever felt this way before he started making content with AI. He was among the earliest wave of creators using AI tools to produce high-quality content. Now, he’s a TapTV-signed artist and Dreamina-partnered Creator with a string of awards to his name. I met Jim through PixAI. He brought a concept design portfolio from his on-going project, ‘Error My Love’, and told me how much effort it took to get AI to generate a hairclip correctly.
Jim has written about the game industry winter and about how risk-aversion mentality of entertainment always wants to upcycle the same concepts and IPs. Now, Jim says he want to create his own IP.
I have so many questions for Jim.
What did the landscape look like in 2023, when he first started, and what's changed since? The tools are so much more intuitive now, some skills he had learned and honed to wrangle with the technology may have become obsolete. Does that take away his authorship?
How much integration is actually happening between traditional creative industries and the big AIGC tools? These companies say they're incubating creators into award-winning producers. Is it working?

Jim HuiHui began working with AIGC since February 2023 and was among the earliest wave of creators using AI tools to produce high-quality content. He is known for developing a distinctive visual style that maximizes the capabilities of AI tools, creating works that feel both familiar and refreshingly new. His representative works include the animated short films ‘Him’, ‘The Thin Man The Gun The Hotpot’, and ‘Hard Bebop Gunman’. He is the AIGC art director of AI short drama ‘Stroke of Genius’.
