​Jon talks about the significance of innovation and the UK’s innovation ecosystem, particularly those relating to system flexibility and the approaches being taken to address them, including the role of the Catapults, followed by a roundtable discussion of the more complex challenges associated with delivering the energy transition.

​Jon Saltmarsh is Chief Technology Officer at Energy Systems Catapult. The Catapult seeks to accelerate innovation needed to achieve the energy transition and help UK businesses capture the opportunities. He is responsible for identifying innovation priorities where the Catapult can deliver most impact, including across homes, sites, local areas, and energy infrastructure. His primary areas of interest are in digitalisations, flexibility, resilience and disruptive innovation.

​Jon has spent 35 years driving innovation in central government and the private sector in energy and defence. He has a passion for applying technology and a systems perspective to solve difficult challenges.
