As part of BTCFi Day, the White Paper Reading Club will host a session covering 2 white papers that helped establish Rootstock as the de facto DeFi Layer for Bitcoin.
1. The OG Rootstock Whitepaper (2015)
Launched in 2015, RSK brought smart contracts to Bitcoin with merge-mined sidechain using a federated 2-way peg and EVM compatibility. It pioneered faster, scalable Bitcoin computation—laying the groundwork for today’s push to make Bitcoin fully programmable.
2. The BitVMX Whitepaper (2024)
BitVMX lets programs run off-chain and be verified on Bitcoin through simple hash-based challenges—bringing smart-contract functionality to Bitcoin without changing its consensus or adding new opcodes.
