data crafting! (artsy data science)

​tl;dr: shm is gonna make some kind of creative party game/experience out of data science techniques --- wanna play together? :-)

​dominant tech development paradigms treat data as a thing to be extracted and scraped en masse, annotated via exploitative "low-skill" labor, and indiscriminately fed to large models to serve mass-market interests...

​can a dataset be crafted with artistry and intention instead? can a model help us see and understand our data, and ourselves, in strange new ways? what can we gain when we reject ideals like "universal accuracy" and "efficiency" by creating and playing with data --- slowly, with intention, with unapologetic authenticity, with weirdness?

​shm garanganao almeda will lead us in a collaborative interactive creative data work experience that will give us a chance to explore these questions together. probably. maybe. I'm still making it up as I go along, folks — come by to find out and hang out. hehehehe
