​Join us on April 14th to watch 2 short films made by our community members followed by a discussion on the theme of Dalit History Month.

​Films to be screened:

​Jaati

​Jaati is a short documentary by Megha Malakar that draws a parallel between rural communities in two different Indian states—Bihar and West Bengal. While language, culture, and everyday practices may differ, one enduring thread connects them: caste. Through intimate glimpses into people’s lives, the film reveals both the contrasts and the striking similarities in how caste continues to shape identities, relationships, and social realities across regions.

Jhaal

​In the short documentary Jhaal, film maker Sneha Malakar delves into their childhood encounters with the concept of caste and the stark contrast in the understanding of it between individuals of the general category and marginalized communities. Through personal reflections, Sneha uncovers the subconscious influence of societal treatment on individuals from lower castes. She grapples with rejecting reservation, questioning the merit of her achievements, ultimately embracing caste as a significant aspect of her identity.
