Workshop: Speculative Sound Worlds w/ Nicole Chufi [Part of Open Culture Tech 2.0]
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
In this workshop we’ll explore conceptual sonification as a way of building a sound world—a place where emotion, story, and technology co-exist.
Through guided experimentation, each participant will develop a short loop—a sonic sketch that feels like their alien co-producer. By the end, you’ll leave with a teaser of a personal sound world of your own, and new ways of thinking about AI as a creative partner.
Using Ableton with AI-driven tools like Neutone, Magenta, and Google’s Instrument Playground, we’ll invite AI in as our alien collaborator: twisting samples, bending instruments, and summoning rhythms that feel both familiar and otherworldly.
This workshop is open to musicians, producers, sound artists, multimedia creatives, and anyone curious about AI in creative workflows. No prior experience with AI is required, producing or editing skills are preferred —just an open mind and curiosity. Materials will be shared in advance with clear instructions.
