About Event

Seventy-eight blank cards. Your markers. Your rules.

For our third annual spooky season craft night, you'll color your own full tarot deck kit. Each kit comes as a black-and-white 78-card deck, ready for you to work your creative magic in any manner you want. You'll leave with a deck that's entirely yours.

You don't need any tarot experience. The kit teaches you as you go.

CHOOSE YOUR TICKET

Every ticket includes a Color Your Own Tarot kit and coloring supplies. You can select a ticket option that includes a book from our curated selection (five book options and respective tickets), or skip the book and come for the deck only.

Note: We will have a few extra copies of each book, so if you change your mind the night of the event, we can honor a limited number of swaps.

Just the Deck is the same kit, the same night, and the same reading signup, without a book. We want as many people at the table as possible, and this ticket is part of how we do that.

THE BOOKS

Tarot in Other Words — Cassandra Snow (ed.) (Queer Anthology)
Ten queer tarot writers on finding yourself in the cards, and the cards in yourself. Personal essays and new techniques for anyone who never saw themselves in the traditional deck.

The Entirely True Story of the Fantastical Mesmerist Nora Grey — Kathleen Kaufman (Historical, Magical Realism Fiction)
Scotland, 1901. A teenage con artist's tarot gift turns out to be real, and it binds her to a grandmother locked in an asylum decades before. Gothic, historical, and full of rage.

The Inner Tarot — Kate Van Horn (Mind/Body/Spirit)
Part crash course, part healing workbook. Van Horn covers the mechanics, then goes card by card with exercises for owning your own story. Gentle for beginners and useful for longtime readers.

The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches — Sangu Mandanna (Cozy Fantasy)
A witch who has spent her life hiding is hired to teach three young witches at Nowhere House. Cozy magic, found family, and a dreamy grumpy librarian.

The Last Sun — K. D. Edwards (High Fantasy)
In New Atlantis, the magical courts are named for tarot cards, and Rune Saint John is the last heir of the fallen Sun Throne. Queer urban fantasy that is un-put-down-able.

GOOD TO KNOW

  • The café is open throughout the night.

  • Drinks and snacks are sold separately.

  • Readings are $5 each, paid at the event, and not included in your ticket.

$5 READINGS WITH NIGHT OWN NINA

Nina Morrison of Night Owl Nina is joining us from Iowa City to offer short 3-card readings throughout the night. She reads tarot as a reflective practice rather than fortune-telling, and she'll do divination if you ask for it. She comes from a theatre background and studies with Spirit of Tali and The Tarot School.

Readings are about 5 minutes and cost $5, paid separately at the event. Sign up at the front when you arrive. Readings go in order, so keep coloring while you wait.
