Ethics in AI: Less About Tech, More About Humans

AI ethics is often framed as a technical checklist - fairness, transparency, accountability. But the truth is, the biggest risks in AI don’t come from the machines. They come from us. From the assumptions we code in, the decisions we greenlight, and the people we leave out of the room.
Join Argentina Beltran, founder of InclusifAI and author of What We Teach the Machines, for a provocative and honest talk on the human side of AI ethics. Through real-world case studies and personal storytelling, she’ll challenge us to see ethics not as an abstract framework, but as a mirror - asking what we’re teaching the machines, and whether we’re willing to learn from ourselves.
Hosted by Rellia Health and StartUp Lab, this session is for builders, funders, and anyone shaping AI systems who wants to move beyond buzzwords toward responsibility with depth, courage, and humanity.
We are official event hosts with Waterloo Tech Week 2025, a celebration of what’s been built here, and what’s still to come. We’re building something great together. September 8-11, 2025. waterlootechweek.ca
