Street dance was born to connect people through movement and music.
For generations, people have gathered to express identity, build belonging, and create culture together. Knowledge was passed from dancer to dancer at parties, practices, garages, warehouses, clubs, and on the street.
What if culture wasn't something we consumed, but something we created together?
Join us for a community street dance experience designed to move every body.
We'll give you a taste of what makes street dance culture so powerful through three styles, each with its own energy and perspective.
Hip Hop to cultivate confidence, resilience, and grounded power.
House to invite flow, freedom, musicality, and connection.
Waacking to unleash expression, individuality, and the courage to be fully seen.
Feeling at home in your body is a skill. It's built through practice, community, and the courage to express yourself. This event is designed to help you experience that for yourself.
Dance instructors will teach you the foundations of each style.
Dance Ambassadors will help you put those lessons into practice.
A beloved Bay Area DJ will keep the music flowing and the dance floor alive.
Join us from 2:00–5:00 PM on Sunday July 12 for an introductory street dance class featuring some of the Bay Area's best Hip Hop, House, and Waacking instructors. You'll learn movement vocabulary, cultural context, and new ways of expressing yourself through your body. The class will transform into a DJ dance party where Dance Ambassadors help turn the dance floor from something to watch into something you belong to.
Come for the dance. Leave with a deeper connection to yourself, your community, and the joy of moving together.
Parking & Transportation
We highly recommend utilizing public transit or rideshare apps, as the venue is centrally located in SoMa and parking in the area can be limited.
Public Transportation:
The venue is a 7–10 minute walk (approx. 0.4 miles) from the Civic Center / UN Plaza Station.
Several major bus lines run nearby, including the 14 Mission, 9 San Bruno, and the 19 Polk (which drops off right near 8th and Folsom)
Parking:
Limited metered and hourly street parking is available on 8th St, Folsom St, and Harrison St. Please read all posted signs carefully regarding time limits and street sweeping.
Nearby Parking Garages: SOMA Grand Garage (1160 Mission St) – Approx. a 3-minute walk.
Accessibility & Considerations
No Elevator Access: The venue is located on the 3rd floor and is only accessible via two flights of stairs. Unfortunately, there is no elevator or ramp access in this building. We sincerely apologize to our friends in the community for whom this poses a barrier to entry.
Seating: This is a high-energy, standing, and dancing event. Limited perimeter seating will be available for those who need a break from the dance floor, but expect a mostly open, high-movement space.
Sensory Note: If you are sensitive to loud environments, we highly recommend bringing earplugs.

About the Future of Us Festival
Launching on America's 250th anniversary, the inaugural Future of Us festival is a 10-day celebration of civic imagination and possibility. We're turning community-sourced, expert-crafted visions of the future into art, storytelling, and participatory experiences. With 100+ events spanning every corner of the city (floral labyrinths, speculative future worlds, dance parties with a purpose, and neighborhood meet-ups), it's a living exploration of what a more creative and generative civic culture could feel like. Organized around four themes (Green Futures, Social Futures, Science & Tech Futures, and Media Futures), Future of Us is breaking down the barriers between art, ideas, and each other, and everyone is invited to co-imagine what comes next.

About the Future Culture Fellows Program
The Future Culture Fellowship is a yearlong program that resources the people best positioned to shape the future of civic life in San Francisco: the community builders, artists, and grassroots visionaries already rooted in neighborhoods and traditions across the Bay. Fellows design and host original, science- and arts-centered experiences that reflect their unique perspectives on what's possible, and become part of a growing Future Culture Collective dedicated to making civic life in SF more vibrant, connected, and imaginative. The event you're signing up for was dreamed up by one of the 2026 Fellows.
