Stories in Motion: Chinatown AR Showcase & Community Feedback Weekend
Experience Chinatown in a Whole New Way!
Be among the first to experience a brand-new augmented reality (AR) application through Edmonton's Chinatown and help shape its future. Join ELIXR Simulations on Saturday from 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM for a free community playtest of our AR experience created for one of Edmonton's Chinatown murals.
Using your smartphone, you'll unlock digital content layered onto the mural, experience local innovation firsthand, and share your feedback to help shape future enhancements and potential expansion of the experience.
Whether you're curious about augmented reality, enjoy discovering local art, or simply want a unique activity before Chinatown After Dark, we'd love to have you join us!
Stay for Chinatown After Dark!
Our playtest overlaps with Chinatown After Dark, an evening filled with incredible food, culture, and entertainment which begins at 6:00 PM. After experiencing the AR mural, stick around to enjoy the evening's food, culture, and entertainment.
Participant Perks
🧋 The first 40 participants will receive a free drink coupon to Boa & Hare.
🍜 Participants will also receive a food ticket redeemable for one menu item at any participating Chinatown After Dark vendor, while supplies last.
Your feedback will directly influence the future of this made-in-Edmonton experience while supporting local innovation, young talent, and Edmonton's Chinatown community.

About the Project
This interactive experience is the result of a collaboration between ELIXR Simulations and Fallout Media, developed through ELIXR's Protégé Program with funding from the Government of Alberta's Northern Regional Economic Development (NRED) program.
The experience centres on the Azure Dragon mural, created by local artist Busyrawk, and invites visitors to experience his artwork in a new way through augmented reality.
As part of ELIXR's commitment to developing Alberta's emerging talent, the project was brought to life by two Protégés working alongside experienced industry mentors. Avi, a Computer Programming student from Red Deer Polytechnic, led the technical development, while Flor, a Digital Artist from Pixel Blue College, created the digital artwork that brings the experience to life.
We're incredibly grateful to Avi and Flor for their creativity and dedication, to Shawn Tse for his vision of enhancing Edmonton's Chinatown through immersive technology, to Busyrawk for creating the Azure Dragon mural that inspired the experience, and to the Government of Alberta for investing in projects that create opportunities for Alberta's emerging talent while supporting community innovation.
We hope this project encourages more people to discover Chinatown, celebrate its culture, and imagine how local creativity and technology can create new ways to experience our city.
