Ai Salon: An Optimistic Future [Bangalore]
This is going to be a special one.
I've had the best time hosting Salons in Bangalore, exploring fascinating topics about the future of AI with a group of like minded, curious, creative individuals.
As I get ready to leave the apartment that has been the venue for all of these discussions, it only made sense to throw one final event here before I go.
We've spent the past year discussing various ways in which our development of AI could negatively impact our species. For this final iteration at this original venue, I wanted to explore the flip side of this hypothetical.
What is the best future we can imagine with AI if everything goes right? So much of our discourse on this topic has been steeped in fear, and there is absolutely good reason for that. But the consequence of this is a diminishing of our inherent optimism and a weighing down of that ever so fragile trait: hope.
Whether successful or not, I would like to encourage us to sketch out a vision of a world we would actually want to live in, not just resign ourselves to the one we are barreling toward.
I am going to be a little bit more experimental with the format of this salon. There will be an initial hackathon style activity, where we will split into small groups to make concrete a specific vision. Then we will resume our conventional discussion format to discuss our findings.
For all of you who have attended one of these events before, thank you so much for making this what it has been. I have learned so much from all of you and hosting these discussions have been one of my greatest joys this past year. Please join us one last time and let's make it a memorable sendoff.
If this is the first time you're hearing about this, we would love for you to join us too.
Here are some of the summaries of previous discussions:
Please arrive on time. We will close the doors 15 minutes after start to ensure the conversations can flow smoothly.
⚠️ There will be light snacks at this event, but if you’d like to please bring along your own snacks and beverages.
Please be advised: Attendance will be limited and we expect significantly more demand than we can accommodate. Acceptance will be determined based on your interest in this topic and the quality of your responses to the registration questions.
If you've been accepted, we've selected you because we believe that you can contribute something valuable to the conversation. Please make sure you do attend the event, and if you're unable to, please mark yourself as not attending so that we can accept someone else from the waitlist. If you don’t attend but are still marked going, that will impact our consideration for future salons
