About Event

Learn how Tupai & Friends builds self-sustaining student math communities in schools — and how you can bring this to Sarawak.

About This Event

Mathematics is failing Malaysian students — and the system is running out of excuses.

More than 80% of students in Malaysian public secondary schools fail math. Teachers manage upwards of 200 students with no assistants. Students who fall behind stay behind. The gap between those with access to quality tutoring and those without keeps widening.

Tupai was built to close that gap.

In this session, Ts. Johan Donough, Head of Partnerships & Community at Tupai AI, will share how Tupai & Friends — Tupai's school community programme — creates student-led peer learning clubs powered by AI tutoring. The focus isn't theory. It's a practical walkthrough of what works, what scales, and how other organisations can replicate the model in their own deployments.

This session is brought to you in partnership with Teach For Malaysia (TFM), hosted at Makeramai Makerspace with the support of SDEC.

What You'll Learn

  • How the Tupai & Friends model works — and why it's designed to sustain itself without ongoing subsidy

  • How TFM Fellows can engage with the programme and what that will looks like on the ground

  • How systemising community deployment allows Tupai to scale impact without scaling cost

  • What it takes to launch a Tupai & Friends programme in your school or organisation

  • How Sarawak-based partners can get started immediately — sponsored accounts and a local delivery partner are already on standby

About Tupai AI

Tupai is an AI math tutor built for Malaysian school students — designed to teach understanding, not just drill practice questions.

The Tupai & Friends programme takes this a step further: it builds student-led peer learning communities in schools, funded by corporate partners, and designed to sustain themselves beyond the initial programme period. With over 5,000 students served, a 50% reduction in failure rates observed across deployments, and 2 out of 3 students showing measurable improvement, Tupai has proven the model works.

Tupai teaches. Others test.
