About Event

An afternoon for Nairobi to talk honestly about what AI is doing to our work, our families, and the rules we all live under.

This is not a tech event. No panels, no slides, no pitches, no expertise required. About fifty people in small groups of six to eight, three hours, one honest argument.

Before the event, you choose the question you want at your table:

  • What does AI mean for my job?

  • What is AI doing to me, my kids, my community?

  • Who decides the rules?

Each table gets a short conversation guide to keep things moving and a host to keep it honest. Every table works its question down to the one problem it thinks Nairobi should solve first. Then we bring the whole room back together, every table makes its case, and the room picks one.

That last part matters here more than anywhere else, because the problem this room chooses is not hypothetical. On Wednesday 2 September, at Impact Lab: AI Mashinani 02, a hundred builders spend a full day building working tools against it, with $100 in Claude API credits each and Anthropic's team in the room. July's edition drew 136 builders and shipped 27 working projects in one night. This time, the brief comes from this room. From you.

Who should come: anyone with a stake in this. Developers and designers, yes. But also teachers, parents, students, nurses, shop owners, sacco managers, boda riders, public sector people, founders, and anyone managing a team through the change. If you've been carrying a question about AI and haven't found a good answer, this is the room.

Why we're doing it: Claude Conversations are running in cities around the world as part of Anthropic's Claude Community events. The idea is simple. AI shouldn't only be shaped by the people building it. It should be shaped by the communities it changes. Nairobi gets to add its answers.

Practical: free, but by application — apply to get a seat at the table. Light refreshments provided. We run in English, and Kiswahili and Sheng are welcome at every table.
