Film Activation: “The Utopian” - when art meets science
“The Utopian” follows artist Joaquín Fargas on a quixotic quest of poetic protest as he comes up with quirky inventions that belie a serious message: We need to stop destroying our vital natural resources, before it’s too late.
The film (currently in production) takes in performative installations on stunning Antarctic islands and Bolivian salt flats, where vibrant ecosystems have been ravaged by mining in the manic global lithium rush – fueled by surging demand for electric vehicles. Technological progress is driving growth and development, but does it have to be a Faustian pact which damages our planet beyond repair?
Join us on Governors Island to meet Joaquín, co-director Frederick Bernas and members of the creative team for a workshop featuring material from the film and an afternoon of family-friendly activities for Father’s Day.
Suggested donation is $5 to support our community space at the Climate Imaginarium, but no one will be turned away due to lack of funds.
