Documentary Premiere | Orphaned: Inside the Forgotten Wells of Corpus Christi Bay
Under Corpus Christi Bay sit old wells that are shut in but not plugged. Not producing, not dead, just left. Fishermen tie off to them and fish the legs. Most people will never know they are out there.
Orphaned is our new documentary, made in partnership with the Ralph Lowe Energy Institute at TCU. Two Texas state agencies handed a team of students the problem and asked for a path forward, and we spent the summer following it.
You will meet the crew that runs out the moment a drop of oil hits the water, including a shrimp boat captain who came back to do this work. You will hear why the obvious fix, pull the platforms out, cost one Texas town nearly everything it had. And you will be in the room in Austin when the students tell the agencies what they found.
