About Event

Applying AI to weather or climate data?

Join us on Friday 15th May for:

New models, novel datasets, early stage products, unpolished ideas - expect it all. The line-up is open for live demos, so we invite you to come with an idea to share with the group - it must be <5 minutes.

A few topics we'd like demos to address:

  • Mechanistic interpretability applied to ML climate models - can we recover new physics from model internals?

  • Real-world deployments - what's been rolled out and what measurable impact has it had? Bonus points for extreme field environments.

  • ML-based observation and data assimilation models - novel foundation model are ok, generic ones are not.

  • AI applications to de-risking solar radiation management and climate interventions before they leave the lab.

  • Reliability and uncertainty quantification in ML forecasting models.

  • + so many more!

Thank you to everyone who expressed interest in demoing. Those who are presenting have been notified already. Unfortunately we could only fit so many people in tonight, but there may be a chance at the end for a few spontaneous demos!

About the organisers:

Pillar VC invests at inception in companies solving the world's greatest challenges. With a significant track record of investing in over 150 companies, with deep university roots throughout, Pillar has raised over $500 million across 4 funds. Pillar VC’s Encode Fellowship, powered by the UK’s Advanced Research + Invention Agency (ARIA) and Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), brings together the brightest minds in AI with pioneering scientific research across the UK. Over 12 months, Encode Fellows receive salary, compute and the freedom to build - launching new ventures, tools, research organisations and more.

Secondlaw develops end-to-end weather foundation models, trained directly on Earth observation data, and applies them in energy markets. The company is headquartered in London and backed by Transition and the founders of Elevenlabs, Synthesia, Wayve and Huggingface.

The Advanced Research + Invention Agency (ARIA) is an R&D funding agency created to unlock technological breakthroughs that benefit everyone. Created by an Act of Parliament, and sponsored by the Department for Science, Innovation, and Technology, ARIA funds teams of scientists and engineers to pursue research at the edge of what is scientifically and technologically possible. ARIA’s flagship Activation Partner initiative accelerates this mission, and powers the Encode Fellowship.
