Open Lab: October 8th, 2025 – How much information do we need to perceive a human?
At last Wednesday’s lab, we experimented with streaming Jason’s three–Raspberry Pi motion-capture pose data into an abstract visual form. The pipeline was simple but wild:
Webcam → Pi → Mediapipe → Pose → KeyDB → OSC → Bridge → WebSocket → Grove → GraphXR → dots.
And the crazy thing is—it actually worked (well… half of the time).
In this setup, a human figure is reduced to a constellation of dots, yet we can not, not recognizing the body and its motion.
And... here’s the question: what if we start removing dots, one by one? At what point do those dots stop being “human,” and when do we stop seeing movement?
That’s what we’ll explore in the next lab. And who knows, maybe this experiment will spark some new ideas for our movement exploration.
