Event Description

The social sector is rich with ideas, evidence, and innovation. Yet too often, even the most promising solutions fail to deliver lasting impact. The challenge is not just what we design, but how those designs hold up in the real world.

This discussion focuses on the often overlooked gap between strategy and sustained delivery. Why do well-designed interventions break down over time? How do operational models, incentive structures, and system complexity shape the outcomes we actually get, not just the ones we intend?

Drawing on insights from practice and theory, the session will explore how different approaches to social change are structurally set up to produce certain types of results, and where they fall short. We will look at common execution bottlenecks, from people and processes to cash flow and data, and what it takes to build systems that can reliably deliver over time.

Bringing together operators, funders, and policymakers, this session invites a more grounded conversation about what it takes to make impact stick, including the role of operational discipline, governance, and long-term investment in the infrastructure behind delivery.

Speakers

  • Dustin Caniglia is Representative at the Center for Humanitarian Change, focusing on adaptive management and decentralised approaches in complex environments.

  • Oli Munns is Co-founder of Respira Health, building scalable digital solutions for chronic respiratory disease.

  • Ragıp Zık is Co-Director and Head of Operations at the Climate Sensitive Infectious Disease Network, advancing global research and collaboration systems.

  • Saif Islam is an Advisor working on scalable and sustainable water service delivery models.

Discussion Questions
Why do strong ideas and evidence often fail to translate into reliable, long-term delivery?
How do operational models and incentive structures shape the outcomes we actually achieve?
What are the most common bottlenecks in execution, and how can they be addressed in practice?
What would it take to design systems and organizations that consistently deliver impact over time?

Location & access
Accessibility matters deeply to us, and we do our best to choose spaces that reflect that. That said, some of our Oxford venues are in historic buildings without lifts. This room is unfortunately not accessible for wheelchair users, those with mobility challenges, or anyone needing step-free access.
