Sutradhar - Shaping Fashion
India generates over 62 million tonnes of municipal solid waste annually, with textile and plastic waste forming a significant share that ends up in landfills. In cities the rise of fast fashion and disposable culture has pushed aside traditional practices of repair, reuse, and storytelling through craft.
This shift not only intensifies the waste crisis but also leads to a loss of cultural heritage rooted in preservation and creativity.
Sutradhar, under the Shaping Fashion project seeks to reimagine consumption by weaving together sustainability and culture. It positions upcycling as both an environmental necessity and a cultural revival. We conduct workshops via Sutradhar to spread awareness.
Flow of the workshop :
Theme: Upcycling textiles using craft techniques like Block-printing (All proceeds from this workshop go directly to the artisans making the blocks)

This interactive workshop blends sustainability, creativity, and community. We begin with an energising introduction that highlights the impact of fashion on people and the planet, the joy of upcycling, and inspiring examples of giving clothes a second life.
The core of the workshop is a hands-on, two-hour creative session where participants engage in:
