Community Mapping for Legal Impact - Report Launch
Community-led mapping is an under-utilized but critical strategy for environmental defenders to secure Indigenous land rights, halt extractive projects, and demonstrate biodiversity gains. Join Awana Digital, legal experts and Indigenous mappers at this launch of the report Mapping for Legal Impact. We will share key insights on applying participatory mapping, data collection and legal empowerment work to achieve climate victories, and how allies and funders can support community-led initiatives.
Awana Digital will be joined by allies and colleagues with on-the-ground experience in mapping and legal strategies. Contributors to the event include:
- Emily Jacobi, Founder and Executive Director Awana Digital
- Phoebe Ndiema, Chepkitale Indigenous Peoples Organization, Kenya
- Tom Lomax, Director and Senior Lawyer at Forest Peoples Programme
- Tom Rowley, Community GIS Specialist, Forest Peoples Programme
- Aliya Ryan, Community partnerships and mapping lead, Awana Digital and Co-author of the report
