About the DeserTech CityLab Program
DeserTech CityLab is a pilot program focused on urban shading and heat-island mitigation- in other words, how to make Be’er Sheva a less hot city.
The program is led by the DeserTech & Climate Innovation Center in collaboration with the Ben-Gurion University Entrepreneurship Center, the Be’er Sheva Municipality, the NUR Innovation Lab, and the “Derech Tzel” organization.
The goal of the program is to bridge the gap between innovation in this field and municipal implementation. It supports entrepreneurs and climate-tech startups, with a strong emphasis on urban heat challenges, in understanding the “municipal language”: identifying the right stakeholders, navigating regulation and tenders, and building effective collaborations.
The program includes 11 sessions over four months, combining expert lectures, mentoring, field tours, roundtable discussions, and international exposure.
By the end of the program, startups develop a strong municipal value proposition, and the municipality selects solutions to be implemented as pilot projects across the city.
