Heyday's Colors of California: Volume 2
Heyday associate publisher (and poet and LE member) Marthine Satris is back for Volume 2 of this many-hued series. Color in California is a matter of light, ecology, evolution, and what the humans here make of it all, and three Heyday artist-authors are coming together to contribute their knowledge to our ongoing conversation. Elissa Callen is a natural pigment maker, ecological artist, and nature adventure friend whose artwork is featured in Meeting the Mushrooms of Los Angeles. Krystle Hickman photographs native bees and their behavior all over the world; she wrote The ABCs of California's Native Bees based on five years of observations here at home. Robin Lee Carlson, author of The Cold Canyon Fire Journals, uses field sketching ecoreportage to research ecological change over time. Together they'll explore color as it manifests in insect perception and plant chemistry, through drought and fire, on the redwood coast, in the city, and deep in the desert. The roundtable discussion will be followed by some hands-on small-group activities, so come ready to get prismatic.
