To succeed you rewire your brain for risk, relentless hard work, self-sacrifice, painful setbacks and … glorious victories. In other words, you change who you are.
One minute I was a stock controller in a car factory. The next I was living like a rock star in a mansion, collecting sports cars and speeding from Cannes to Monaco on a powerboat to watch the Grand Prix with Silicon Valley’s elite.
That inevitably produces laughs. And you need to hear about it if one day it might be you.
Running startups over 38 years was immense fun, hugely rewarding and unbelievably hard work. Humour is the only way I know to pass on important lessons that, when read out loud, sound completely absurd to normal people.
So why not take a late lunch, have a laugh at my expense, then ask yourself a few questions: Am I like that? Would I do that? Can I do better? And … is it really funny?
