Meet Sophie Smith: From Cambridge to Dubai's Healthtech Revolution

Sophie's journey to founding Nabta Health was deeply personal, inspired by her grandmother Rixa, who passed away at 59 after being dismissed by doctors despite advocating for her health. Moving to the Middle East while expecting her first child, Sophie witnessed firsthand how women in emerging markets experienced worse health outcomes than in other parts of the world.
Since founding Nabta Health in 2017 with Dr. Mussaad Al-Razouki, Sophie has built the region's leading women's health platform, serving over 25 million women across the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia. Her approach challenges systemic healthcare bias, addressing the alarming reality that it still takes four times longer to diagnose women with the same chronic conditions as men, despite women being twice as likely to see a doctor.
Beyond healthcare, Sophie launched the #2022FemaleAngels movement, advocating for gender parity in startup funding after experiencing firsthand the challenges of securing investment as a female founder.
