Afrofuture World-build: The Return to the Great Mothers

​In celebration of Mother’s Day, this Afrofuture World-Build draws inspiration from the Afrotopia Book Club selection The Conjuring of America: Mojos, Mermaids, Medicine, and 400 Years of Black Women’s Magic by Lindsey Stewart.

​Stewart centers the sacred power of Black women as conjurers, weaving West African ancestral spiritual systems with local herbal knowledge to shape American culture, wellness, and spirituality.

​Together, we will imagine a future where the conjure woman is not on the margins, but at the center. A future where her wisdom, ritual practice, and intuitive technologies form the foundation of society, guiding us toward matriarchal worlds rooted in care, sovereignty, and deep spiritual intelligence.

​For the next 400 years, what becomes possible when Black women’s magic is no longer hidden, but governs how we live, heal, and build?
