Join the Bitcoin District Book Club! We meet every month to explore new and exciting rabbit holes by reading books that are popular with bitcoiners.
Join us for a deep dive into The Network State by Balaji Srinivasan. In this session, we'll explore a provocative question: what if the next new country begins not with territory, but with an online community?
Balaji argues that the internet enables people to organize around shared values, build parallel institutions, accumulate resources, and eventually establish communities in the physical world. He introduces the "network state"—an online community capable of collective action that crowdfunds territory around the world and ultimately seeks recognition as a new political entity.
We'll discuss whether network states are actually feasible, how Bitcoin and decentralized technologies might enable new forms of political organization, and what sovereignty, governance, and citizenship could look like in the internet age.
