About Event

Ammonia and hydrogen co-firing are being discussed as options for power sector decarbonization in Asia, with some countries considering them in energy strategies and power sector projects. These developments call for closer review of policy and investment decisions to prevent co-firing from extending the life of coal and gas power plants and prolonging dependence on fossil fuels.

In Korea, the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment (MCEE) has announced that coal–ammonia co-firing will be excluded from support under the clean hydrogen power auction scheme from 2026. This session will highlight Korea's recent policy shift as a case study and explore its relevance to ongoing policy debates on co-firing across Asia.

Asian partners will share recent developments in national energy and power plans, proposed co-firing projects, policy debates, and civil society responses. Through these exchanges, participants will discuss common challenges, different national contexts, and opportunities for cooperation to prevent co-firing from prolonging fossil fuel dependence.
