AI@UNM Welcome Event
Come kick off the semester with AI@UNM on February 10 at the Farris Engineering Center. We will be providing PIZZA and drinks.
AI@UNM is a collaborative student org bringing together students, researchers, builders, and the broader AI community. Not only will we present the technological advancements, but we will also grapple with the heavy social cost of building advanced AI systems: from the massive energy demands of data centers to ensuring alignment.
WORKSHOP SERIES that will cover two distinct topics:
Governance Track: social and geopolitical impacts of building powerful AI systems, economics/sustainability, policy/regulation (the lack thereof), and AI Safety.
Technical Track: technical/mathematical foundations of AI -- building up from neural networks to transformers. Discuss major AI-enabled advancements in protein biology, material science, and physics
JOURNAL CLUB to go over landmark policy whitepapers and technical research papers while also keeping up with the current state of the field.
Get involved in your own PROJECT: from replicating results from popular papers to building meaningful applications/products
Whether you're a builder, a skeptic, or just curious, the Welcome Event will be a great opportunity to meet current members of the club while also getting an idea for how you can get involved this semester. Food and beverages will be provided!
