The Sink: The Carbon Removal Event pre-The Drop
Carbon removal is real: it’s moved beyond the laboratory and past pre-seed and seed rounds to reach a stage where — in all of its different methods — it could meaningfully improve life in a climate-changing world.
But for carbon removal to scale up before 2030 we need smarter commercial engagement between startups/developers, investors, corporates, and policymakers. How to do this is the focus of The Sink, the flagship carbon removal event at The Drop.
It’s co-hosted by Counteract, a leading carbon removal-focused VC with investments across the space; and Chris Neidl, carbon removal lead for the UN Climate Champions. With facilitation from Gabrielle Walker at Rethinking Removals.
In keeping with the spirit of The Drop, expect a mix of inspiration and hands-on workshopping. Come ready to roll your sleeves up! We hope this event leaves you better informed and also strengthening the carbon removal ecosystem.
Topics explored in the full-day, practical session include:
Strategies for commercial success in this space today — as an investor, buyer, or developer — in view of uncertain carbon markets in the year or two ahead.
Innovations and innovators: many carbon removal startup founders will be in the room!
Corporate partnerships with developers: whether through corporate VC, carbon-credit buying, or sustainability strategy, how can companies partner with startups to help those companies reach decarbonisation goals in a better way?
The most important policy developments today; and how companies, investors, and startups can ensure they benefit from regulatory support.
The Sink will especially focus on industry as an accelerator of carbon removal scale-up in the years to 2030. How can carbon removal technologies integrate with today’s industrial processes to provide market demand for startups — and net zero solutions for industry?
The event welcomes participants from (and with carbon removal solutions for) the following sectors:
Natural resources: energy, metals, and mining
Food and land: including agriculture and forestry
Transportation: aviation and shipping
The built environment: infrastructure and building materials
We look forward to welcoming all those interested in an educational but networking-friendly day that’s all about how to make carbon removal even more real in the years ahead.
Attendance is limited. Breakfast, lunch, and coffee included.
Please note: This side event is part of The Drop in Malmö but is independently organized and run. Please direct any questions (or praise!) to the event organizers.
Being accepted to host or attend a side event does not guarantee a ticket to The Drop's main event on September 17. If you'd like to attend the main event, please apply for a ticket here.
