Group Exhibition Opening: ERROR 410
โโ๐ซ ERROR 410 ๐ซ
โERROR 410 takes its name from the status code that indicates when an online resource is permanently gone and no new address is known for it. People growing up in the early 2000s were often warned, โBe careful what you post online, because it will be there forever.โ In reality, librarians and archivists have constantly warned that digital media are not as long-lasting as we were led to believe. Even if something does manage to survive the ever-changing landscape of the internet, it inevitably decays beyond recognition. Servers become obsolete, hyperlinks rot and no longer know where to go, lovingly crafted personal websites suddenly vanish without a trace, and the Facebook profiles of long-deceased relatives continue to haunt your Friends List. The artists in this show grapple with the impermanence of human memory and data, and question our blind faith in technology to save us from these failings. At the same time, they are calling attention to the fact that our online habits have irrevocably transformed the ways we mentally visualize and categorize our own lived experiences.
