花緑青が明ける日に / A New Dawn

​森の中にある創業330年の老舗花火工場・帯刀煙火店は、町の再開発で立ち退きを迫られていた。そこで育った帯刀敬太郎は工場に4年間立てこもり、失踪した父・榮太郎に代わって幻の花火「シュハリ」を完成させようと奮闘している。立ち退き前日、東京で暮らす幼なじみのカオルが戻ってきた。再会した3人は、花火の完成と打ち上げをめぐる驚きの計画を立てる。その鍵を握るのは、美しい青色の顔料「花緑青」——燃やすと青くなるが、毒性を含むため現在ではほとんど使われなくなった顔料。日本画家・四宮義俊の長編デビュー作。『君の名は。』『この世界の片隅に』に参加した四宮が、水彩画のタッチを融合させた独自の映像表現で描く、新世代の青春アニメーション。第78回ベルリン国際映画祭コンペティション部門正式出品。

​The Obitana fireworks workshop has been in operation for 330 years, but now faces demolition for redevelopment. Keitaro, the younger son, has barricaded himself inside for four years, trying to complete a legendary firework called "Shuhari" that his vanished father left unfinished. When his childhood friend Kaoru returns from Tokyo on the eve of the final eviction, three young people are reunited and hatch one last, desperate plan. The key to everything is hanaroku — a beautiful but toxic green pigment that burns blue. Shinomiya Yoshitoshi's debut feature is a Japan-France animated co-production that competed in the Berlin International Film Festival. A painter who contributed to Your Name and In This Corner of the World, Shinomiya brings a watercolor-inflected visual style all his own.
