​現代映画の最前線を走る監督たちが、短い時間に凝縮した映像のエッジ——5つの短編が、ジャンルも国境も越えて響き合う。空音央『まっすぐな首』は、悪夢から目覚めた女性の首の激痛を起点に、現実と記憶の境界が溶ける映像詩（ロカルノ国際映画祭 最優秀短編映画賞受賞）。ヨルゴス・ランティモス『ニミック』は、地下鉄での偶然の出会いから人生そのものが乗っ取られていく不条理劇。ジョナサン・グレイザーの2作——ゴヤの銅版画に着想を得た集団暴力の寓話『ザ・フォール』と、"踊りのペスト"の史実をもとに世界のダンサーたちと隔離下で生み出した『ストラスブール1518』。そしてアリーチェ・ロルヴァケル＆JR『都市の寓話』は、プラトンの「洞窟の比喩」を下敷きに、7歳の少年の目を通して現代都市の幻想を描く——レオス・カラックスも出演。スクリーンでこそ体感すべき、ショートフィルムの最前線。

​Neo Sora Yorgos Lanthimos / Jonathan Glazer Alice Rohrwacher & JR Featuring Sakura Ando, Matt Dillon, Lyna Khoudri, Leos Carax

​Five short films from five of the most vital voices in contemporary cinema, screening together as a single program. Neo Sora's A Very Straight Neck (Locarno Best Short Film) follows a woman waking from a nightmare into searing neck pain, as reality, dreams, and memory fold into one another. Yorgos Lanthimos's Nimic stars Matt Dillon as a cellist whose identity is quietly stolen after a chance encounter on the subway. Jonathan Glazer contributes two works: The Fall, a wordless allegory of mob violence inspired by Goya's The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters, and Strasbourg 1518, a lockdown collaboration with dancers worldwide inspired by the historical "dancing plague." Alice Rohrwacher and JR's An Urban Allegory reimagines Plato's cave allegory through the eyes of a seven-year-old boy navigating a modern city — with an appearance by filmmaker Leos Carax. Short films at the cutting edge, made for the big screen.
