Desert Thirsts and Jerusalem Winds | East London Showrun Sun 25 Jan Matinee
Escape to the 1920s and embark on an adventure searching for destiny.
Leopold Weiss, an Austrian reporter finds his life changed after (what was meant to be) a holiday to Jerusalem. He'll journey the Middle East, writing about the spiritual virtues he discovers.
He’ll blag his way into the most prestigious newspapers, he’ll risk death in the Arabian desert, and he’ll make eye contact with the love of his life.
All on his journey to become Muhammad Asad, one of the 20th Century’s most famous Muslim scholars.
Desert Thirsts and Jerusalem Winds is the first ever dramatisation of Muhammad Asad’s autobiography The Road to Mecca. The play premiered in the Edinburgh Fringe 2024 as a one-man show starring Actor-Poet Junayd of Islam. Junayd then brought the play to the Cambridge ADC theatre with a four-person cast, getting praise from the Cambridge Student for “tender moments… paired with moments of real introspection”.
