Global Sustainability Challenge Webinar: Adaptation & Resilience - Case Study on Extreme Heat
Climate change is no longer just a future threat to be prevented; it is a present reality that we must navigate. We are now officially living in the age of climate adaptation and resilience.
In this talk, we will delve into the field of Adaptation & Resilience: what it means, why it has lagged behind mitigation in attention and investment, and why that is beginning to change. Among the many risks that adaptation must address, extreme heat has emerged as one of the most widespread, the most deadly, and the most underserved by existing solutions.
Starting from the broader adaptation landscape and moving into heat as a case study, the talk will explore not just the scale of the problem but what it looks like to actually build in this space: how innovators are turning ideas into products, finding early customers, and navigating the path from concept to market in a sector where so much still needs to be created from scratch.
The session will be led by Jamil Wyne, an advisor, author, investor and educator working on climate technology and investment around the world. He is the founder of the Hazelwood Network (formerly Riffle Ventures), a senior advisor at UNIDO, was also the lead author of the Climate Tech Opportunity, a global study from the Said Business School at Oxford University, and has a Linkedin Learning course - Climate Technology for Business Resilience. He has worked with the World Bank, International Finance Corporation, USAID, the Development Finance Corporation, the World Wildlife Fund, ClimateWorks Foundation, the Environmental Defense Fund and multiple national governments.
