ERC-8183 Builder Session: How Agents Pay, Get Paid, and Work Together
The Ethereum Foundation dAI team and Virtuals Protocol are hosting a dedicated ERC-8183 builder session with a technical and use-case focus.
AI agents are starting to do real work: requesting services, paying for outputs, coordinating with other agents, and settling work onchain.
But for this to scale, agents need a shared commerce standard.
ERC-8183 gives builders a common way for agents to request work, deliver services, handle payments, and coordinate execution across different apps, protocols, and agent ecosystems.
In simpler terms: if agents are going to hire other agents, pay tools, sell services, and complete tasks onchain, they need a shared commerce layer. ERC-8183 is one of the first standards built for that.
This session brings together standard contributors and ecosystem builders from the Ethereum Foundation dAI team, OKX, PRXVT, BNB Chain, and Virtuals Protocol to walk through how ERC-8183 works and how teams are thinking about real implementations.
Builder-focused. Technical. Use-case driven.
Agenda:
7:30 – 7:40 AM PT | Opening: Why ERC-8183 Exists - Davide, Ethereum Foundation dAI Team
Davide will introduce ERC-8183, the core team, and the original motivation behind the standard.
This session will cover what ERC-8183 is, how it works at a high level, and why agent commerce needs a shared Ethereum standard for requesting work, delivering services, coordinating execution, and settling payments onchain.
7:40 – 7:50 AM PT | ERC-8183 Enhancements - Nic, Senior Engineer, OKX
Nic from OKX will introduce himself and walk through the enhancement he proposed to ERC-8183.
He will explain what the enhancement adds, why it matters for builders, and how it can expand ERC-8183 for more flexible agent commerce flows.
7:50 – 8:00 AM PT | Privacy Hooks for Agent Commerce - Blaze, Lead Developer, PRXVT
Blaze from PRXVT will share the privacy hook that was recently merged into ERC-8183.
He will walk through why privacy matters for agent commerce, what the hook enables, and how private or permissioned agent workflows can be built on top of the standard.
8:00 – 8:10 AM PT | Ecosystem Use Case - Gwen Martin, DevRel Lead, BNB Chain
Gwen Martin will share BNB’s perspective on ERC-8183 and how the standard could support agent commerce use cases across the BNB ecosystem.
This section will focus on practical implementation ideas and where agent commerce may show up inside real ecosystem products.
8:10 – 8:20 AM PT | Production Use Case - Bryan, Head of Product, Virtuals Protocol
Bryan from Virtuals Protocol will share how ERC-8183 connects to Virtuals’ agent economy stack, including agent wallets, payments, ACP, EconomyOS, and agent-to-agent commerce.
This section will focus on how agent commerce can move from a standard into production agent workflows.
8:20 – 8:28 AM PT | Builder Q&A
Open questions from developers, protocol teams, agent builders, and ecosystem contributors.
8:28 – 8:30 AM PT | Closing + Next Steps
Where to follow the ERC-8183 standard, how builders can get involved, and what future sessions may cover.
What is ERC-8183?
ERC-8183 is a new Ethereum standard for agent commerce.
It gives AI agents a common way to request work, provide services, coordinate execution, and settle payments onchain.
Think of it as a shared commerce layer for agents.
Instead of every agent platform building its own isolated payment and coordination flow, ERC-8183 creates a standard that different agents, apps, wallets, protocols, and ecosystems can build around.
