JAM: Community Data Centers
There's a lot of talk about data centers and how they're destroying the world.
Some of us are curious about re-framing the assumption of all data centers must be monopolized and corporatized into something like maybe community data centers can be collectively-governed and cooperatized.
I'm (Deb Tien, Co-Founder of the Relational Tech Project) particularly curious about basic things like setting up old computers in a room, partially for my own community's benefits :) This also starts to touch on local LLMs that use locally-held models and data.
So we're inviting a few folks who are doing this kind of stuff in their respective local communities, to get in-the-weeds with me and perhaps learn from each other.
We'll record this and generate some sort of AI summary artefact, not totally sure what that'll be. The ideal would be something relevant for Relational Builder's Commons of practices that can be remixed in other places.
This will be rather emergent, to experiment with a format for documenting these types of exchanges that could be helpful for others (who have varying levels of technical expertise) to learn from. While we might not have break out rooms, we'd welcome your ideas and questions in the chat to help us shape this thing!
We'll also have an optional after-space open, if you'd like to keep jamming (or running late and want to say hi).
Some totally optional pre-reading (feel free to send me/Deb any other suggestions):
