​Choice: autonomy in a automated world

​Technology is deeply woven in all aspects of modern life. It promises lives that are better, easier, and faster, it also quietly asks something of us: our attention, information, resources, cognition, and even how we relate.

​This year's Fabric explores how, as technologists, we navigate the tradeoffs between these two pulls, and intentionally build technology that supports individual and collective autonomy in the midst of an increasingly automated world.

​Fabric follows the unconference model: the schedule will be created by all participants at the beginning of the gathering.

​This year, Fabric contains a public playlist of ideas hosted on are.na, available here. Attendees and the public are encouraged to add to this board and ingest its readings as a tone-setter for the unconference.

​Friday 6pm-9pm: kick off and planning

​This year, to set the tone and inspire us, we're bringing in a speaker for a short talk and Q&A on the theme of Choice: autonomy in a automated world.

​Saturday 10am-5pm: unconference

​Unconferences favour participatory discussions and interactive sessions. Here's a non exhaustive list of topics we're hoping to explore:

​1RG does not have an accessible entrance, the front entrance requires 3 steps of about 8 inches each. The rear entrance is two steps. There is a bathroom on the ground floor.
