Presidio Art & Nature Hike
3-mile loop through the best parts of the Presidio! We’ll be hitting the "Big Three" highlights: the redwood forest, the bay views, and the Andy Goldsworthy art installations.
It’s a moderate, chatty pace—mostly trails and quiet footpaths (no walking on busy roads). We'll get some fresh air, see some cool art, and enjoy the city views.
Route (~2.6 miles):
🌲 Up: We start on the Ecology Trail, winding up through the redwoods.
📸 View: A quick stop at Inspiration Point for views of Alcatraz and the Bay.
🎨 Art: We’ll check out the towering Spire and then walk on the Wood Line (a winding log sculpture on the forest floor).
🍂 Down: We finish by walking down historic Lovers' Lane.
Logistics
📍 Meeting Point: Presidio Officers' Club (50 Moraga Ave). Look for us outside the main entrance.
🅿️ Parking: There is a paid lot right across from the Officers' Club (Moraga Ave Lot) and a larger one at the Main Parade Ground (Anza Ave). Note: Parking can be tricky, so please arrive a few minutes early!
👞 Wear: Comfortable walking shoes (there is some dirt/gravel) and layers (it can get windy near the viewpoints).
Hard Start @ 10:15 AM: We will wait 15 minutes for stragglers, then we hit the trail! If you miss the departure, check the map link to catch up.
🌤️ Weather & Wear (Jan 4 Forecast) Current forecast is looking beautiful! Expect mostly sunny skies with a high of 54°F.
Dress Code: Layers are key. 54°F can feel chilly in the shade/wind but warm when you're moving in the sun.
Rain Policy: It is looking dry, but this is SF in January. If the forecast takes a turn, I’ll email everyone by 9:00 AM on the day of the hike with a "Go/No-Go" decision.
Post-Hike (Optional)
After the hike, we’ll walk over to the Tunnel Tops. You can grab coffee at Il Parco or check out the Presidio Pop Up food trucks next door. We’ll find a spot on the lawn to eat and hang out!
