Found Poetry
Artist books are a form of art with a slippery definition. Are they books? Are they poems? Are they sculptures?
In the Found Poetry workshop we’ll be exploring this medium by creating our own artist books. You’ll learn a basic bookbinding method to create a book from old greeting cards, and the rest of the workshop will be spent in community - chatting and getting to know each other while we search through collage materials to find the images and words that speak to us.
This workshop is meant for creatives of any level, especially those looking for ways to let go of perfectionism! Having to curate what’s meaningful to you from the collage materials and finish the book within the time limit of the workshop is a great way to push yourself to let go of high expectations and trust your process.
Justine Ozo is an artist based in Richmond, VA primarily focused on book arts, zines, and textiles. They’re currently having fun helping themself and others let go of the fear of failure in the artistic process by hosting workshops that focus on play as a primary means of creation!
