Outsider.Freud

​You're invited as we inaugurate a new year of programs sponsored by the Sacramento Psychoanalytic Society! We'll gather for small bites, beverages and conversation before screening Outsider.Freud, a Gradiva Award-Winning documentary about the life of the founder of psychoanalysis. A discussion will be held after the screening.

​This hour-long documentary is a brief and engaging journey into the life and work of Sigmund Freud in four acts, combining animation, dreams, and interviews with prominent psychoanalysts and historians such as Adam Phillips and George Makari. It explores Freud’s experiences of marginalization as a Jew in Vienna during Hitler’s rise and how these shaped his theories and personal life. The film provokes questions about the unique status of being outside what is generally considered acceptable, a position the psychoanalyst assumes during every working hour as we listen for the unconscious.
