🎙️ Why I Picked This: The one question that saves product careers (Lenny's Podcast with Matt LeMay)
This one is super timely and relevant. In today's landscape, it's more crucial than ever for us to show the impact of our work on both our customers and the business. Matt LeMay gives us a no-BS framework for getting out of the "low-impact death spiral" and ensuring our products are truly moving the needle. It's a great listen to help us all be more strategic and outcome-driven PMs. With layoffs continuing to reshape the industry, this felt like exactly the kind of conversation worth having together in person.
What makes it especially good for group discussion is that Matt challenges some deeply ingrained PM habits — like cascading OKRs, celebrating feature launches, and deferring to what execs ask for — without being preachy about it. He replaces the anxiety with something more grounding: a clear, practical way to think about your team's work relative to what the business actually needs. Whether you're a senior PM, a newer one trying to find your footing, or a product leader trying to rally your team, there's something in this episode that'll hit home.
Personally, I found Matt’s advice (e.g., fall in love with reality) so relevant and compelling that I also listened to his book Product Management in Practice (2nd edition)—and I loved it. Highly recommend it if you're looking for practical, relevant insights into the day-to-day realities of product management.
