Office Hours: Getting Started with AI Agents

​Office Hours is a free, recurring series of hands-on AI sessions in Downtown Oakland. Every other Thursday, 12-3 PM.

​Session 01: Agent First

​AI gets useful when it can interact with the outside world. In this session, we cover tool use, function calling, MCP, and how AI agents talk to live APIs.

​You will build a working agent during the session. API keys are provisioned on-site, so nobody has to manage credentials manually. Bring a laptop. No prior agent-building experience required.

​Format:

• ​12:00-1:00 PM: Guided session with live demos

• ​1:00-3:00 PM: Open floor for building, questions, and conversation

​This is the first session in a progressive series. Each one builds on the last, but drop-ins are welcome. Sessions are recorded and posted online.
