Entrepreneurship and innovation are the foremost essential ingredients for economic growth. Without them, an economy stagnates, becomes sclerotic, withers and dies - unable to compete with its international peers and respond to emerging needs and forces.
But where do these intangible assets come from? How can we create the environments that encourage and train people to identify opportunities and have the courage and confidence to grasp them? And what can we learn from those who have?
Wales is unfortunately not a country known for its entrepreneurial dynamism. It does poorly on many metrics in this regard, although efforts are being made to remedy this and progress is being realised. There are nonetheless extremely bright, shining examples of what it can produce, of entrepreneurs on the cutting edge of their respective fields, who we can all learn a great deal from.
During this panel discussion, I'll be talking with some of Wales's most promising founders about their journeys of taking their ideas from paper to reality, raising funding and finance, running a growing business at the frontier of their respective sectors, and how Britain makes it easy or hard to start, run and scale a business in this country, and how it can do better.
