Heading Past 1.5C - Can Carbon Removal help?
The chances of keeping within 1.5C are diminishing fast, in the face of climate backlash in the US and elsewhere. Carbon removal is increasingly seen as a way to minimize and even reverse 'overshoot' of our temperature goals. In this public event we will ask how carbon removal might work sustainably and justly as a climate intervention. Come along and learn about the techniques being proposed, prospects for deployment in Massachusetts, and join in discussions on governance, politics and more.
Speakers, moderators and panelists include:
Sara Nawaz, Research Director, Institute for Responsible Carbon Removal
Elizabeth Healy, Rocky Mountain Institute, Lead author of RMI study on carbon removal in Massachusetts
Benjamin Sovacool, Boston University, Principal Investigator on GeoEngineering and Negative Emission pathways in Europe (GENIE) project
Chris Neidl, 4Corners Carbon Coalition & City CDR initiative (tbc)
Livia Polise, MassCEC, commissioning team member for MA carbon removal study
Julian Agyeman, Professor of Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning, Tufts University
