Four Women: Climate, Class, & Capacity Building

​Four Women: Climate, Class & Capacity-Building is an interdisciplinary storytelling workshop that explores how art shapes how societies perceive, remember, learn about, and respond to climate change.

​Ni-ka Ford, Health & Scientific Illustrator, will open this workshop with a listening session of Nina Simone's "Four Women."

​Nina Simone’s “Four Women” matters because it makes structural harm personal and impossible to flatten into one story. Through Aunt Sarah, Saffronia, Sweet Thing, and Peaches, Simone gives four Black women distinct voices while showing how the legacy of social injustice, exploitation, and anger shape their lives.

​A rotating panel formed from participants will respond to guided prompts via writing, zine-making, drawing, etc. about whose experiences become visible, whose knowledge is believed, and how art changes what people notice, remember, and feel moved to do.

​This is an afternoon of slowing down to process the information coming at you all week. It is specifically designed for you to notice who's voice continues to go unheard in the climate conversation. Finally, it is a time to envision together what is possible when the most marginalized perspectives are centered.
