Mini-scène: Stickerbooking as Practice
How can an early teen hood obsession with collecting, peeling, and swapping stickers reframe the way we think about modern creative technology?
The workshop invites participants to explore sticker-booking as a metaphor and framework for physical and digital creation. In this hands-on session, Ashley and Amalina extend the nostalgic materiality of filling sticker sheets and exchanging treasures with friends into the parallel realms of web development and creative coding — specifically through the lens of handmade web practices.
Instead of viewing coding as a cold, technical process, participants will examine the technology of copy-and-paste functions as an act of knowledge transfer, archiving, and curation akin to sticker-booking. How do the simple gestures of collecting, arranging, and pasting shape how we build digital spaces and project ourselves online?
No prior coding experience is needed — just curiosity and a willingness to play, peel, and paste.
About the Artists
Amalina Lai is a physicist by day and a self-proclaimed artist by night. Having spent much of her adolescence stumbling upon various quirky personal websites and staying up late to personalize her own blog, she dreams of reuniting with the same sort of wonderment she had as a pre-teen surfing the web before social media. These days, she maintains her own corner of the internet, sharing parts of her life and creative endeavours through woven snippets of HTML code. She hopes to share the joy of crafting a home for oneself in the landscape of today's internet.
Ashley Hi is a visual artist who utilises kinetic sculpture and installation to explore medium, material, and movement. Her works blend art, technology, and data to create sensory spaces and generative experiences through algorithm and design. She holds a degree in Digital Arts Computing from Goldsmiths, University of London.
