International Gator Day Virtual Volunteering: Bag Decorating Session
Celebrate International Gator Day by giving back from wherever you are. We’ll gather on Zoom for a relaxed, creative bag decorating session in support of Heart of Dinner’s Decorated Bag Project.
Heart of Dinner delivers weekly care packages with culturally thoughtful meals, fresh produce, handwritten notes, and hand-decorated bags to Asian American older adults living in under-resourced communities.
During this session, we’ll decorate bags together from the comfort of our homes. No art experience needed. Bring your blank brown paper bags, bold markers or paint pens, and a little creativity. We will be following these decorating instructions.
What you’ll need
Bag (Required Size): 10x5x13 inches plain brown paper bags with handles. Click here to purchase online. Only bags of this size will be accepted.
Local to NYC? Community participants can pick up free blank bags at Partybus Bakeshop (31 Essex St, NY, NY 10002) during their business hours. Check their instagram for updated business hours.
Markers & Pens: Please use King size sharpies or similar black markers to write “Heart of Dinner” and “愛心餐” in large, legible text.
Art Supplies Selection: Use only bold, vivid colors for decoration. Avoid metallics as they don’t stand out on brown bags. Recommended options:
Dual tip acrylic markers (select ‘26 Colors Brush-Dot’ option)
Bold paint sticks (select 12 primary colors option)
Highly recommended acrylic pens for vivid colors (avoid metallic)
Quality acrylic paint pens for colors in white, gold, or red (Avoid silver)
Stencils: If you’d like a guide, we suggest these approved stencils to help your designs meet our quality standards: Stencil 1 or Stencil 2.
