An Intimate Conversation about "JEWFACE" on Screen
Join actor/filmmaker Melissa Center to discuss Jewish representation on screen & the origins and inspiration for her provocative new film.
JEWFACE is a short film currently in development - a deeply personal dark comedy about Jewish identity.
In anticipation of the production, filmmaker Melissa Center is hosting an intimate living-room style gathering to address Jewish representation on screen, what makes "JEWFACE" unavoidable, and where Jewish artists (and audiences) can go from here.
What to expect:
An intimate, off-the record gathering
A short personal share from Melissa about the film's origin
A brief piece of material
Open conversation and reflection
A relaxed, welcoming space
Why This Gathering
JEWFACE exists because certain stories are too often flattened, softened, or left untold. This film is an act of specificity - and of courageous expression.
This gathering is an opportunity to join in community & sit with the why behind the work.
About The Film
JEWFACE is a narrative dark comedy short film:
Miri Cantor's life is f%*d - She's single. She's broke. She can't even get hired for "Jew: The Musical!" Convinced her childhood rhinoplasty is the root of her arrested development, Miri embarks on a reckless mission to reset her life - by attempting to re-break her own nose.
The film blends humor and vulnerability to explore identity, self-perception, and the longing to belong.
A Note on Support...
JEWFACE is currently being funded by a community of people who feel aligned with the film's existence. For those who feel called to support it, the campaign will be open - but attendance does not come with expectation.
Your presence is enough.
