About Event

(This is event is for active participants and volunteers of The Upskilling Labs—register as an "upskiller" here to get access.)

Most people treat a presentation as a container for information. You stand up, explain what you built, answer a few questions, and move on. But that is not really what is happening.

A Showcase is a rare kind of moment. It gathers attention. It concentrates curiosity. It gives other people a reason to look closely — not only at the project, but at the people behind it. And that matters, because for most participants, the thing being evaluated is not simply the prototype itself. It is the judgment, initiative, adaptability, and range that the prototype makes visible.

Making Your Work Count is a workshop about understanding that moment more clearly and using it more deliberately.

This session will explore the adoption curve, the "buyer" journey, and positioning strategy as practical ways of thinking about what happens when/after someone first encounters your work.

Who are you hoping notices it?

What are they actually looking for?

What makes them move from mild interest to real attention?

And once they are paying attention, what do you want them to understand about you?

The point is not to manufacture a persona or dress ordinary work up in grand language. It is to recognize that good work does not always speak for itself, especially in crowded, fast-moving environments. Often, what separates work that opens doors from work that disappears is not quality alone, but whether the right people can quickly understand why it matters and what it reveals about the person who did it.

This workshop is for participants who want to be more thoughtful about that process. Not more performative. More legible. More intentional. More able to connect the work they have already done to the opportunities they want next.
