Map The Room x tabi : Parallel Lives
Twenty four strangers. More than twenty four possible lives.
Rooms to meet new people rarely come with a map.
This one does.
Map The Room turns a table of strangers into an interactive dining experience built around the people who arrive. Your answers shape who you sit beside, how you’re introduced and the conversations around the table.
Before you arrive, you'll answer a short questionnaire. Then, the afternoon unfolds like a puzzle. Visual maps, curated prompts, and a series of designed encounters gradually reveal unexpected overlaps, parallel paths, and the less obvious things people in the room may have in common.
For one night, the room shows you how differently, and unexpectedly, we may connect.

Map The Room starts from the premise that there is more present in a room than what first appears.
🥢This season, Map The Room is partnering with restaurants to explore questions sparked by films, using them as starting points to discover more layers about each other.
There's often a lot of things moving through our lives that don't make it into a neat introduction. A role you chose to step away from or somehow faded. Something you're quietly learning. The part of your life that's just beginning to take shape.
Taking inspiration from the Daniels' Everything Everywhere All at Once and its boundless, expansive universe that explores all paths taken and untaken, this gathering wonders what would happen if we made more room for all the different versions of us at the table?
We’ll gather at Tis Two Cities, a fittingly homey and dreamy space with old-world character. Join us for an afternoon of whimsy and discovery while savouring a thoughtfully composed set of Chinese family recipes. Sample menu dishes can be found here.
Notes:
Haven't seen the film? No problem. It's a moodsetter, not required viewing.
You can participate at your own comfort level, and no activity will put anyone on the spot. Come solo or with a friend.
This isn't a workshop or guided healing space. There's nothing to fix, optimize, or figure out. We're here to get curious about the lives already in the room.
🗺️ What makes this event different? How does it work?
You answer. This room writes back.
📝 Before dinner:
Answer 13 playful and reflective questions. Share a little bit about the paths you've taken, the things that are part of your life now, and what you might be moving toward.
(Personal stories may be interpreted to surface a shared thread, but won't be displayed or repeated in full.)Key dates:
Oct 13 12:00PM — Questionnaire sent
Oct 19 11:59PM — Complete questionnaire by this date to be included in the bespoke materials
Oct 25 — We feast, play and Map The Room
Signing up after Oct 19? You're still welcome if seats remain, but we may not be able to include your answers in materials prepared in advance.
🪑 At the table:
Your answers will already have become part of the room. Explore the visual maps, meet your seat partners, and start discovering the unexpected overlaps between strangers.
You might sit beside someone whose present overlaps with your past. Someone whose past overlaps with your possible future. Someone actively living the thing you've loosely contemplated.
🧵 By the end:
You'll leave with an array of possible threads to follow: shared interests, surprising overlaps, and people you may want to know better.
And perhaps you'll see a few more versions of your own life, too.
🫶 Is this room for you?
You believe sharing food is a love language 🥟❤️
You wish there were more spaces to discover the sides of people that don't usually come up when you first meet.
You want a real sense of everyone in the room, not just the pocket of people you land in
You like meeting new people, but don’t love “working the room”
You’re curious about patterns, overlaps, and differences... especially when you can see them
You enjoy playful, reflective prompts, lateral thinking, and light games (inspired by NYT Games: Connections, Strands, Family Feud, Chain Reaction)
🕯️What the night looks like
12:00-12:30: 👋 Arrival, Meet Your Seat Partners
When you arrive, you'll receive a pocket 'dossier' introducing you to the room and your part in it. There's a puzzle hiding underneath the afternoon. The invitation? Notice the clues, explore the patterns, and see what you can uncover about the strangers around you.
12:30: ✨ Luncheon begins
Take your seat and meet the strangers we've placed beside you. What you don't know yet is that they may be holding pieces of a puzzle. Prompts left around the table give you ways into conversation while a family-style lunch unfolds.
2:00: 🧠 Play Intermission!
We'll reshuffle into new groups for a playful challenge built from the answers everyone shared before arriving. More of the room comes into view.
